MOCK ELECTION RESULTS

The results of Oasis Academy Coulsdon Mock Election for Croydon South ward were:

Overall

Labour                               33.9%

Liberal Democrats            27.3%

Conservative                     19.1%

Green Party                       12.5%

UKIP                                   6.6%

English Democrats           2.3%

Jane Avis (Labour) and Jeff Bolter (UKIP) very generously took time out of their busy electioneering schedules to be here for ‘the count’.  Jane Avis was thrilled that the 'voters of tomorrow' elected her and said that the win had given her a real boost.

Year 9 students ran the polling day and ensured that everyone followed the correct procedure.  Each of the the 5 family houses were split into wards.  Labour won every Ward but the staff vote bucked the trend with Conservatives coming top.

Year 11 student Rebecca Hodgkiss said: "Everyone here has taken our mock election very seriously and it’s given us a feeling for the real thing.  That’s important because we’ll all be eligible to vote in the next general election.  It was very interesting to meet all the parliamentary candidates and listen to their different views before we cast our votes.”

Fellow Year 11 student, Gary Harrington agreed: “It’s really important to vote.  If people don’t, they can’t complain if the Government passes a law they don’t agree with.”

The Academy are very grateful to all candidates who supported the mock election. As well as Jane Avis and Jeff Bolter, Simon Rix  (Liberal Democrats) Richard Ottaway (Conservative) also visited the Academy, outlined their policies and faced tough questions by students who wanted to know their stance on a range of issues including: plans to raise education standards, the Academy programme, University funding, NHS, Defence, the expenses scandal and knife crime.  Download a copy of the questions and all the answers.
