Oasis Academy Coulsdon opened just one year ago and already standards of academic achievement have risen dramatically.
The number of students achieving the top A*/A grades has increased by 50% since 2008 and rate at which student performance has improved from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4 means that the Academy is now in the top 25% of schools in the country.
GCSE results for Year 11 students show an overall increase in attainment levels of 12% for students achieving 5A*- C; and an 8% increase on students achieving 5 A*- C grades including English and Maths.
Within the year group there are many individual success stories:
Top achieving students are 16 year old Abdul Badran & Shweta Varier who both achieved 13 GCSEs all at A* & A grades.
16 year old David Sidwell’s results prove that attendance is the key to success: David has never missed a day of school in his life, not even from when he started at Keston Primary School in Old Coulsdon and has achieved a total of 11 GCSEs all at A*- C grades.
16 year old Callum Fry and Hannah Cook, both from Old Coulsdon, are celebrating achieving a total of 28 GCSEs between them all at A*, A and B grades.
Identical twins Nancy and Natasha Kabamba who arrived in the UK 18 months ago from Zambia, were entered for 12 of the same GCSEs and achieved identical grades in 9 of their subjects.
Greek born Theodora Odigie together with her brother Marias joined the Academy in Year 10 and together achieved a total of 21 GCSEs at A*-C grades. Both students are native Greek speakers although they did have an understanding of English when they joined.
Muneeb Mohammed Safdar, whose mother tongue is Urdu, also joined the Academy in Year 10 and achieved an amazing total of 14 A* - C grades.
Other top grade students include: Thomas Bean (12 A*A grades) , Paul Newland (15 A*-B grades) and Deana Hassanein (13 A* - C grades) and Student Managing Director (Head Boy), Solomon Egbo-Egbo who achieved 13 A*-C grades.
The most improved performance of the year has to be awarded to 16 year old Michael Tobin from Caterham who really struggled with his mock GCSE exams before Christmas but put his head down and worked his socks off and has achieved 10 A*-C passes in Maths, English, Graphics, Double Award Science and Sport.
Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
