Practical Questions
Q: How many Academies have you opened?
A: Oasis Community Learning opened its first 3 Academies in September 2007; in Enfield, Immingham and Grimsby. We are opening a further 6 this September: Oasis Academy Coulsdon is joined by Oasis Academy Lord's Hill and Oasis Academy Mayfield (Southampton), Oasis Academy Bristol and Oasis Academy Brightstowe (Bristol) and Oasis Academy MediaCityUK (Salford).
There are pictures of the Academy uniform now throughout this site. To see more go to the uniform gallery.
Q: What colour is the uniform?
A: The uniform consists of: Black blazer with Academy badge, black trousers (or optional knee-length skirt for girls), white shirt and Academy tie (green tie for yrs7-9, blue tie for yrs 10-11), appropriate (i.e. non-fashion) plain black shoes.
The P.E. kit consists of: green rugby shirt, white P.E. polo shirt, black shorts, Socks-black with green stripe.
Coats worn by students must be either blue or black
Q: What colour is the school jumper?
A: The Academy jumper is black with the Oasis logo.
Q: Will we be able to buy the badge only to go on an existing black blazer?
A: Due to the way the badge is stitched on to the blazer the badge and blazer come together as a package and so therefore the badge can not obtained separately. Oasis apologies for any inconvience this may cause.
Q: Are tracksuit trousers allowed? Not all kids are comfortable wearing shorts.
A: There will be an option for students to wear tracksuit trousers. They must be black or navy blue.
Q: Does the school tie have stripes?
A: The tie includes a section of the circle of inclusion.
Q: What does the badge look like?
A: Here is a visual of the Oasis Academy Coulsdon badge:
Q: Is it ok to buy jumpers from the shops or do we have to get them from the school?
A: Uniform which carries any Oasis branding i.e. the black jumper, will need to be purchased through the Academy.
Q: Are we allowed to wear small studs in our ears?
A: Students are not allowed to wear any jewellery (with the exception of a wristwatch) on the Academy site.
Q: My child will be travelling from South Croydon, how easy and safe is the journey?
A: You can find the best route on the Transport for London website - go to their getting around page (link opens in new window).
Q: Do you still provide buses for students going towards Croydon?
A: Arriva Buses have allocated two 466 buses, specially designated for our Academy Students at 3pm; the end of the school day. The buses wait at the Lacey Drive bus stop and students are escorted safely onto the buses by staff. Students who leave the premises later than 3pm should walk to the Coulsdon Road, cross at the zebra crossing by the parade of shops and catch the 466 bus opposite the petrol station. Buses run every 10 minutes.
Q: How do the children sign up for extra activies? Will they be run before and after school?
A: Each student will have the chance to sign up and be involved in what we call the Enrichment program (extra curricula activities). Students will have the chance to sign up to these through the Academy.
Q: When will the new year 7 children be issued with a school dinners swipe card?
A: All students, including Year 7, have been issued with their school dinner swipe card. Money can be loaded onto the card via ParentPay and all parents have been issued with their username and id logon details. Further information can be found on our Information for Parents section of the website.
Q: What work is being done to the building and how long will it take?
A: Work has begun on remodelling the Academy. A new wing is being built and existing areas completely refurbished. This building programme is not affected by recent Government cutbacks to the Building Schools for the Future programme. The work will be complete by 2011. A 'flythrough' of the new building can be viewed from our homepage.

Academies are all-ability schools serving local communities and working in partnership with the Department for Education, Local Authority, local businesses, other schools and other local stakeholders.
As of September 2010 there will be 12 Oasis Academies; two in NE Lincolnshire (Immingham and Wintringham), two in Southampton (Lord’s Hill and Mayfield), two in Bristol (Brightstowe and John Williams), two in Croydon (Coulsdon and Shirley Park), two in Greater Manchester (MediaCityUK and Oldham) and two in Enfield (Hadley and Enfield).
Further details can be found on the Our Academies page.
The Department for Education meets the capital and running costs for an Academy in full, as a part of an overall strategy to raise standards beyond the improvements already made by the predecessor school. Once up and running Academies receive equivalent funding to other secondary schools in the same area.
Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
