Oasis Academy Coulsdon Students Adding Sparkle to the Whitgift Centre
10/11/2008
Oasis Academy Coulsdon students will be entertaining the crowds in the Whitgift Centre next Saturday, 15th November and helping to switch on Croydon’s Christmas Lights.
Twenty-five Academy students will be performing a 30 minute dance and samba drumming routine prior to the festive switch on by The Mayor of Croydon, Cllr Jonathan Driver and actor, Brian Blessed.
The students are busy rehearsing every day and even gave up two days of their half term holiday to polish their performances.
‘We are a bit nervous as this will be our first public performance’
said Deana Hassanein, Year 11 Dance Leader,
‘but we are really looking forward to it and we’ve got great outfits, especially designed for the performance’.
Dance teacher Chane Van der Berg said:
‘We are doing a mix of dance styles: contemporary, street and modern. We are also going to have our music department play Samba Batucada and Samba Reggae live. It’s great to be invited to be part of this community celebration; we hope lots of people will come along to watch and enjoy the Christmas lights.’
Oasis Academy students will perform their sparkling routine at 12.30 on Saturday 15th November as part of an afternoon of Christmas celebrations in the shopping centre. The main Christmas lights ‘switch on’ ceremony will take place from 5pm.
