Students "personal development is good because the care, guidance and support students receive are good" (Ofsted, March 2011)
Sixth Form students have dedicated Sixth Form Academic Mentors who are responsible for small groups of students. Mentors monitor the progress of students and are the first point of contact for advice and support on academic and other issues. Every week Sixth Form students will have a 1:1 mentoring meeting to discuss progress and any issues of concern. At this weekly meeting Mentors can advise, provide learning and/or time-management strategies and if necessary, arrange for the student to receive subject specialist support or wellbeing advice.Mentors regularly review attendance, punctuality and behaviour.
Sixth Form students remain or, for those who are new to the Academy, are placed, in Family Groups and are expected to participate in Family organised activities and act as role models for younger Family members.
Mr Pelling Deputy Principal Responsible for Key Stage 5
Mr McCullagh Assistant Principal, Head of Sixth Form
Mrs Butcher Careers Guidance, Work Related Learning
There will also be a Sixth Form Administrator who will deal with, UCAS applications and general Sixth Form administration.
Students must arrive at the Academy for 08.20 ready for Lesson 1 which begins at 08.30. Students on morning duty rota may need to arrive earlier.
There is an expectation that all students will be here at this time and registered with their tutors. Students who are persistently late to or who fail to attend morning registration may face disciplinary action. There is no morning registration for Y13 students and neither Y12 nor Y13 student are required to register in the afternoon.
The Academy generally operate a 5 X 1hr period day, with school finishing at 3.00 pm. Some students may find that they have a period 6 lesson, ie a teaching slot from 3.00 to 4.00 pm.
Full and punctual attendance at lessons is an expectation we have of all students. Students who are persistently late to class or who absent themselves without good reason will be jeopardising their place in the Sixth Form.
If there is a legitimate reason for a student’s absence, we ask that parents provide a note to this effect. Absences may be legitimated in three ways: through a phone call to the school office (01737 551161); through a letter to be handed to your son/daughter’s tutor or by e-mail, to Philip.mccullagh@oasiscoulsdon.org
Students will have on their timetables periods that are classified as Free, ie non-contact periods. We expect that students will use this time for private study and that any non-contact periods in the morning will be spent on the school site. Should a student have a non-contact period in the afternoon, they are free to go home.

We also offer a ‘drop in’ service to the community at certain times during the week.
The Academy has been awarded ‘Healthy School’ status in recognition of its contribution to raising awareness of health and wellbeing issues. The purpose of the scheme is to ensure that health education becomes an integrated part of the school curriculum and that the wider community is involved in its planning, implementation, evaluation and celebration. There are four strategic aims of the National Healthy Schools Project: to support children and young people in developing healthy behaviours; to help raise pupil achievement; to help reduce health inequalities; to help promote social inclusion.
Sixth Form students will be leaders of the Academy. The Academy Head Boy and Girl and their team of Academy Prefects will assist staff in duties and be role models and mentors to younger students. They will meet monthly will the Principal and members of the Academy Leadership Team to discuss issues, review policies and procedures and be the student voice on all matters relating to the Academy. Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
