Local MP, Chris Philp, visits Year 7 students at OAC

Students in Year 7 were visited by Member of Parliament for Croydon South and Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Philp, on Friday 15th November. The year group took a keen interest in his visit and were excited to learn that this would take place in person in their school!

The visit fell during Parliament Week, and was a great way to mark the event with students. Leading up to this, students were taught about the role of MPs, and asked 'If you were to meet Chris Philp MP, what would you ask him?'

Those with the best questions got the chance to read them out, but others also put their hands up and asked about issues such as crime. Their questions were brilliant - some focused on Mr Philp's career and how he helped people as an MP, while others asked about how he could help to give future generations a better experience. There were also some local issues that the students chose to ask about - several were very concerned about  the closure of the local library and took the chance to let him know their worries.

Mr Philp went away with a much clearer picture of how smart and informed our students are, and a greater understanding of how much our local community means to them.
