We are pleased to be celebrating National Poetry Day at the Academy with a reading of the poem See Though My Eyes by Karl Nova ready by our English department. The video was shared and shown to all students at Mentor time to ensure that even those who did not have English on their timetable on Thursday 1st October did not miss out on the celebrations. You can listen to the poem by clicking on the below link.
We are also proud to have these three amazing poems submitted to the Oasis Community Learning poetry competition as part of the festivities.
The Old Oak Tree- by Jasmine, Year 7
I grow I grow up so high
Right up to the clouds so high
I am so old as mankind,
I may be old but ever
So wise the old mighty
Oak tree am I
Crying- by Callie, Year 7
I am waiting in the station
Waiting here in desperation
My organs eating me up inside
My Ma is crying and so am I
I am sitting on the train
Crying for my Ma again
Bombs exploding ever so near
But no one else is crying, not even a tear
I am looking out of the glass
Peering back into the past
To a time with no fighting
To a time when Hitler wasn’t biting
I am sitting on the train
Crying for my Ma again
Bombs exploding ever so near
But no one else is crying, not even a tear
My Father is fighting in the evil war
Flying planes, the ones that cry and soar
My brother is marching in the army
Nothing nice, nothing fancy
I am sitting on the train
Waiting for my Ma again
Bombs exploding ever so near
But I am not crying, not even a tear.
First fortnight- by Dylan, Year 7
It’s been a couple of weeks since I started,
And all my nervousness has departed.
This place has exceeded my expectation,
It’s got great teachers, subjects
and canteen food that stops my starvation.
I’m so glad I picked Oasis to do my learning:
I’m going to try my best here so I can get earning.
